The afternoon of July 3rd at our grill center was a bit different than usual  people flocked to the store wanting to hear not only advice on how to choose a grill, but also interesting messages about olive oil, salt and pepper.

Our grill expert Audrius Blinstrubas told the guests of the event how to choose the most suitable grill according to their needs, revealed the differences between electric, coal and gas grills, and listed their advantages and disadvantages.

The acquaintance with the grills was followed by an olive oil seminar-tasting by Liana Davletšina, the only olive oil sommelier in Lithuania. "Italian Taste Gourmet" stores and olive oil schools The founder of Tikrasaliejus.lt told how to recognize high-quality olive oil and destroyed widely circulating myths.

According to Liana, the label alone will not give you information about the oil - it is necessary to taste it in order to understand if it is really of high quality. Quality oil has a pleasant aftertaste of freshly cut grass or vegetables, fruits, does not leave an unpleasant greasy feeling and tickles the throat. Athe bitterness and spiciness of the olive oil indicate that the olive oil is made from green, unripe olives, which means that it contains the most valuable substances and antioxidants. 

Liana also debunked a myth about frying - olive oil is indeed good for frying. According to her, it is important to pay attention to acidity when choosing olive oil for cooking. The lower the acidity, the more antioxidants will be in the same oil, which will prevent the formation of dangerous carcinogens during cooking.

The olive oil lecture was followed by the presentation of gourmet salts and exotic peppers by Kęstutis Pivoriūnas from "Druska namai". Kęstutis told how to choose the right salt and pepper for different dishes and presented interesting facts. Did you know that Himalayan salt found in supermarkets is often given a pink color with the help of food coloring, and in Ayurvedic, Chinese, alchemist notes cubeb pepper mentioned as having anti-aging properties?

According to Kęstutis, pepper can be used not only for preparing meat dishes or salads.
